Hanford Wins State Championship

The Hanford High School football team beat Bonita Vista of Chula Vista Saturday night, 33-21, to win the CIF Division IV-AA State Championship.

Quarterback Ryan Johnson threw three touchdown passes to rally the Bullpups from an early 14-6 deficit. Two of the touchdown passes went to Cole Taber. The third went to Juwuane Hughes on a 77 yard play.

Meanwhile, Chowchilla lost to Sierra of Manteca in the Division IV-A title game when the visiting Timberwolves got a touchdown pass from Mark Vicente to Mark Paule Jr. with only 54 seconds to play.

The Redskins had taken their first lead at the 2:28 mark of the fourth quarter on a short touchdown run and two-point conversion by Alex Gutierrez. But Sierra moved back down the field for the touchdown and a 20-15 victory.

The third Valley team in a State Championship game, Immanuel, lost at Mater Dei Catholic in Division V-A, 56-21.
