'Dogs tighten tournament race

The Fresno State baseball team opened an important Mountain West series Friday night with a 7-2 win over Air Force.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning and had a 6-0 lead after five.

Zach Ashford had two hits and drove in two runs.

He also extended his streak of games safely reaching base to 43.

The victory gets Fresno State within a half game of fourth place Air Force in the Mountain West standings.

Only the top four teams qualify for the conference postseason tournament.
