Bulldogs get tournament bye with win over Air Force

The Fresno State men's basketball team had a chance to lock up a first-round bye at next week's Mountain West Tournament with a win at Air Force Monday night.

It was a makeup game for the one that was postponed by the government shutdown.

The Bulldogs would have to get it done without injured point guard Jaron Hopkins.

Because of technical problems with the Mountain West feed, fans watching the internet broadcast only saw two Fresno State baskets in the first half, including a big dunk by Nate Grimes.

The Bulldogs had a 4-point lead at halftime and went on to beat Air Force 54-48.

Fresno State earned itself a bye at the tournament with the win.

The 'Dogs are 3rd in the Moutain West and will finish the regular season at 4th ranked New Mexico on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

The 2018 Mountain West Men's Basketball Tournament starts March 7 in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center.
