Bulldog men, women open hoops season with big wins

The Fresno State men's and women's basketball teams both coasted to victory in season openers Friday night at the Save Mart Center.

The Fresno State men's basketball team began its 2017-18 regular season looking like a team that was in mid-season form. The Bulldogs hit their first seven 3-point attempts, taking a 52-25 lead at half and coasting to a 96-65 win over UC Santa Cruz.

Junior guard Deshon Taylor led the way for the 'Dogs, scoring 16 points and adding six assists, three rebounds and three steals. Six Bulldogs scored at least 12 points.

Following the men at the Save Mart Center, the Fresno State women also won handily, beating Eastern Washington 81-56.

Jaime White got a career-high 21 points from sophomore Kristina Cavey, as well as 15 points each from guards Candice White and Bree Delaney.

Both teams will play their next game at home as well. The men host Cal State Northridge on Monday 11/13, and the women host Arizona State on Wednesday, 11/15.
