2018 Doc Buchanan Invitational Finals

The 2018 Doc Buchanan Invitational finals featured wins from four Valley stars, and an epic heavyweight showdown.

Wrestling fans nationwide often turn their eyes to Clovis High for the Doc Buchanan Invitational. It's one of the biggest and best high school tournaments every year, where the 14 champions earn a treasured cowboy hat. The 2018 version of the Doc B provided an extra special event - a much anticipated heavyweight showdown.

Cougars senior Seth Nevills, ranked third in the country, squared off with second ranked Cohlton Schultz of Colorado. After both wrestlers won every match leading up to the finals in the first round, they battled for three full rounds, with Schultz ultimately winning 3-2. For Nevills, it was the first loss of his high school career.

Four Valley wrestlers did stand atop the podium Saturday night. Buchanan seniors Anthony Montalvo and Trevor Ervin won epic matches at 182 lbs and 220 lbs, as the Bears finished 2nd in the team standings behind Bergen Catholic of New Jersey.

Selma finished third in the team standings, with three second place finishers, and a champion at 106 lbs in freshman Richard FIgueroa.

Host Clovis finished 5th, with sophomore Giano Petrucelli earning his first cowboy hat at 113 lbs.
