Regional high school bowl games this weekend

The six Central Section football champions are all playing in state regional bowl games this weekend.

Three games are at home, and three games are on the road.

The Central High Grizzlies are coming off the program's first ever Valley Championship win, and will head up north to play San Joaquin Section power and undefeated Folsom on Friday.

For all these teams, it's a bit of a challenge, coming back to play after accomplishing their main goal.

Central High Grizzlies coach Kyle Biggs said, "We don't talk about state championships in the off season. We talk about getting back to the Valley championship, expecting to be in the Valley championship, and finishing. That was our whole mantra this year, was finishing. And now we've got to refocus, we've got to regroup. We're excited to keep playing. We're excited to have another week of practice and we're going to go compete. That's what we've asked our kids to do all year long and they've responded like champions do."

After a week off, Tulare Union and record setting running back Kaz Allen will be at home Friday.

The still unbeaten Tribe is hosting the Serra Padres of San Mateo, the school that beat Sanger in a regional bowl last year.

San Joaquin Memorial is the only local team playing on Saturday.

The Panthers have to go to Southwest El Centro, which is basically the Mexico border, about 7 hours away.

Good news for the Panthers, they have been told if they win Saturday, they will host the 4-A State Championship game next Saturday.

The Golden West Trailblazers are coming off its first ever Valley title, and will be at home Friday to welcome Big Bear to Visalia.

Caruthers, who still has not lost a game, will be on the road against Orange High School in Orange County.

And 14-0 Strathmore gets St. Patrick-St. Vincent in a rematch of last year's state title game.

If the Spartans and Caruthers both win, they would play each other for the 6th AA Championship.
