COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (FOX26) -- The Chief of Colorado Springs Police says an El Paso County Sheriff's deputy has been shot and killed, and the man accused of killing him as also been killed.

We're told a total of 4 law enforcement officers were shot; 3 deputies and one police officer. Law enforcement says a bystander was also shot.

Those other deputies and the officer are in area hospitals. We're told the police officer had to be rushed into emergency surgery, the other two deputies' conditions aren't yet known.

Today was Deputy Micah Flick's 11th anniversary with his department. He leaves behind a wife & 7-year-old twins.

The El Paso County Sheriff tweeted this;

We're told the shooting happened during the investigation into a stolen car.

This is now the third Sheriff's deputy to be shot and killed in the line of duty in the state of Colorado since the beginning of the 2018 year.
