Woman convicted of murdering her husband is granted parole
A woman who was found guilty of murdering her husband was granted parole by a two-member panel of the Board of Parole Hearings on Thursday, according to the Fresno County District Attorney's Office.
The D.A. says inmate Susan Lee Russo was found guilty of murdering her husband, Senior Chief Petty Officer David Russo in 1995.
The jury also found that Russo committed the murder for Financial Gain and by Lying in Wait. Russo was also convicted of Solicitation to Commit Murder of a co?defendant. She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
However, in April 2017 Governor Jerry Brown commuted Russo's sentence making her eligible for the hearing.
The D.A. says this decision is not final, Governor Brown must review the decision to grant parole and can reverse the decision or refer the decision to BPH for a review by the full board.
