The Madera County Sheriff's Office says a man is now in custody after he reportedly ran away from a deputy and bit him in the arm.

The Sheriff's Office say 35-year-old Kirk Yeterian was contacted by a Sergeant Larry Rich on July 6th in the 49000 block of Civic Circle Drive in Oakhurst. When the deputy tried to arrest Yeterian he started running. Sergeant Rich was able to catch up to the suspect and that's when Yeterian started resisting and bit Sgt. Rich on the left bicep.

Yeterian was ultimately arrested and booked in the Madera County Department of Corrections for Battery on a Peace Officer, Obstruction/Resisting an Executive Officer, 2 Felony Warrants, and 4 Misdemeanor Warrants.

Sgt. Rich was evaluated at a local hospital and treated for his injuries. He has been cleared and released to return to full duty.
