Madera police arrest murder suspect in Fresno

UPDATE: Friday, December 29, 2017: - The Madera Police Department has arrested 50-year-old Anthony Barnett at the Veterans Hospital in Fresno.

Barnett is accused of shooting and killing Estevancio Goldsmith during an altercation at a friend's house on Christmas.

UPDATE: Thursday, December 28, 2017 - The Madera Police Department held a news conference on Thursday to provide updates to the status of the murder investigation.

Detectives have identified 50-year-old Anthony Barnett of Madera as the man suspected of killing Goldsmith.

Police say Estevancio Goldsmith resided in Vallejo but was working in Eureka.

He came to the Central Valley with his two adult sons to celebrate his 11-year-old daughter's birthday on Christmas Eve.

Goldsmith and Barnett were both at the home of a mutual friend, drinking and playing dominoes when a disturbance broke out.

Police believe Barnett went out to his car to get his gun and came back in shooting Goldsmith multiple times.

Barnett is from Madera and served in the military and worked at the Madera Post Office in the past.

A warrant has been issued for $1 million bond for Anthony Barnett. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

UPDATE: Dec. 26, 2017-- The Madera Police Department has identified the man who was shot and killed on Christmas.

Police say 45-year-old Estevanico Ali Goldsmith was shot and killed in the 1000 block of Clinton Street.

Police have a current person of interest that they are trying to locate. The name of that person is not being released at this time.

ORIGINAL: The Madera Police Department got a call of a shooting on Clinton Street around 4:30 a.m. on Christmas Day.

When officers got there, they found the body of a man.

Detectives were called and began actively investigating the scene as a homicide.

The victim's information is not being released at this time pending family notification.
