Local boy with epilepsy writes about dog, wins $5K for Fresno rescue
A local boy with epilepsy has won an animal rescue in Fresno $5,000.
It happened Monday on Parker Rogers' 14th birthday!
Parker and his dog Toby got the giant check Monday.
Parker said he wrote an essay as part of Petco Foundation's Holiday Wishes campaign about how Toby learned how to detect his seizures. He won, so now that money will go to Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, where Parker and his family adopted Toby.
"He just makes me feel safe, and if I’m sad he makes me feel happy again, and he doesn’t make me feel alone in all of this," Parker said.
Parker's mom Mandy said Toby has been a blessing to their family.
"The take away today for everyone is to not discount a dog from a shelter or a rescue because they can be amazing," she said.
The rescue has a chance to win another $25,000. You just have to vote in the People's Choice Awards, through December 20th.
