------------------

Fresno police are investigating a kidnapping, assault, carjacking and robbery at Shepherd and Champlain in Northeast Fresno on Friday.

A 24-year-old woman told police she was out walking a 1-year-old she was babysitting.

The woman noticed a man and tried to take the baby home, but before she could get inside, she says the man forced his way inside.

The woman told police he assaulted her and then forced her and the baby into her car.

They drove to a nearby ATM around 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. where the man withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from her back account.

The man left the woman and child in the parking lot and drove off in her car, a maroon 2000 Mitsubishi Montero SUV with the license number 6NMG705.

The woman told police the man made a statement that he needed to get back to Los Angeles, so police believe he may be going there, but have put out the description throughout the state.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, 5' 6" and 170 lbs.
