The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested a Fresno man who faces multiple felony charges of sex crimes against children.

40-year-old Steven Matlak of Fresno was arrested on Thursday for the second time in two weeks for similar charges.

The Sheriff's Office says they received a complaint from a woman on July 27th who said her 5-year-old daughter told her Matlak took pictures and touched her while she was naked.

Matlak was arrested the next day on July 28th but he was released on bail on August 2nd.

During the investigation detectives learned about a similar charge from a 9-year-old girl with no relation to the 5-year-old.

Detectives served search warrants at Matlak's work and home and confiscated his electronic devices.

The investigation has turned up even more possible victims and Matlak was re arrested on August 10th on separate charges.

He was booked into the Fresno County Jail with a new bail of $380,000.

Investigators say Matlak knew all the victims.

The Sheriff's Office says the mother of the 5-year-old recently talked to the child about good touching and bad touching, which led the child to open up about the encounter with Matlak earlier this year.

The Sheriff's Office is encouraging everyone to take precautions against potential child abuse crimes.

Parents should monitor their children’s internet usage and be aware of the software apps they are using.

Teach children to be wary of the people they chat with and understand that bad people pretend to be someone else to lure them in.

Parents should also talk to kids about coming to them with anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.
