Foster mom arrested for child abuse after 18-month-old found unresponsive at her home
VISALIA, Calif. (FOX26 NEWS) —
The Visalia Police Department says a foster mom was arrested after officers found an unresponsive 18-month-old in her home.
Police say they were called to a home in the 1400 block of East Sunnyview on August 12th. When officers arrived Darlene Valdovinos-Aguilera, 29, told them the child was unresponsive because it fell. However, after an investigation it was determined that the injuries the child had, were not consistent with what was described by Valdovinos-Aguilera.
The child was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center and later transferred to Valley Children's Hospital. An investigation conducted by the Valley Chidlren's Child abuse team and Visalia Police Department Violent Crimes Unit determined that the life-threatening injuries were the result of child abuse inflicted by Valdovinos-Aguilera.
On August 17th, Valdovinos-Aguilera was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Pretrial Facility for Child Abuse. Six other children were removed from the home by Tulare County Child Welfare Services. Detectives say none of the addition children are believed to be victims of child abuse.
