Fire destroys family home before Christmas
PORTERVILLE, Calif., —
A mother of six is now coming to grips that her family is without a place to stay just weeks away from Christmas. This is after a fire burned through their home in Porterville.
Sheena McDougald says there wasn't enough time to grab anything before everything burned to a crisp Thursday night. Firefighters think that something electrical started it.
"When I went to my kitchen window, you could see flames coming out of a freezer on my back porch. After that it was just gone," said McDougald.
No Sheena and her six children are staying with a family member. She says before she can even think about plans to start over. She says she has to come to terms that her family doesn't have a home right before Christmas.
"The night before we decorated [the Christmas tree] put the gifts we had under it. Then the next night it was gone. I know it probably sounds selfish but I feel like if maybe I had something to give to them [the children] it would make it better for them," said McDougald.
McDouglad says her children's ages range from three to 11 years old.
