6-month-old girl dies following car crash in Tulare County
TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26 NEWS) —
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a three-car crash that resulted in the death of a 6-month-old girl.
Police say the crash happened at Road 124 and Avenue 256 around 6:20 p.m. Monday.
Officers say a woman in a Chevy Avalanche failed to stop at a stop sign causing a Honda Odessey with a family in five inside to swerve into oncoming traffic. The van hit a Nissan Maxima nearly head-on. As a result, police say the 6-month-old girl in the Odessey was ejected from the car and the Nissan Maxima came to rest on her. She died on scene.
The woman who was driving the Odessey suffered a broken leg and was taken to a nearby hospital. A man and two young girls who were also in the van were not injured.
The CHP says the car seat the baby was in was not properly secured and that's what caused her to be ejected from the car.
Officers say an investigation will determine who will be cited and that they don't believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
