Bakersfield's Kevin McCarthy picked by GOP colleagues to continue as majority leader

Bakersfield Congressman Kevin McCarthy has been unanimously re-elected by his GOP colleagues to serve as majority leader.

Republicans have also re-nominated Paul Ryan to be House speaker, according to The Associated Press. Ryan still must win formal election when the full House picks its speaker after convening Jan. 3, reports the AP.

Among the other GOP lawmakers picked Tuesday to continue in their leadership roles were Majority Whip Steve Scalise and Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, according to the House Republican Conference.
