Certified Financial Planner and Partner at Bridgewealth Advisory Group, Derek Elrod, visited Great Day to talk about the importance teaching kids about money.

Derek says parents can teach their children about managing money and developing a good work ethic at the same time.

  • Under 7-years-old: Buy a piggy bank, count money and roll coins, set an example with the way you talk about and spend money.
  • Elementary School: Don't pay allowance, pay for chores, and then have them use their money to buy things rather than buying it for them.
  • Teenagers: Set up bank account, avoid debt, teach time value of money, compounding interest, and have them get a part-time job.
