Dollars & Sense: Tax On Investments

Derek Elrod visited Great Day to talk about how different types of investments are taxed.

Certified Financial Planner and Partner at Bridgewealth Advisory Group, Derek Elrod, visited Great Day to talk about how different investments are taxed and the importance of knowing.

Derek says there are two different types of tax groups:

  • Qualified Dividends: Taxed at the lower long-term capital gains tax rate like on real estate
  • Non-qualified Dividends: Everything else, taxed at ordinary income rates like simple interest

Derek says it's important to know the difference so you're paying attention to the "after tax return" so you know where to invest for savings and where to invest for retirement.
