Edison High junior is superintendent's superstar for December
FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) —
Superintendent Jim Yovino's superstar for December is a civic minded Edison High junior. Kathia Osuna is on a mission to get out the vote. She loves politics.
The Superintendent of Fresno County Schools Jim Yovino was surprised to hear that Kathia registered 300 students for national voter registration day. "If we want kids to get involved with public elections and politics, the first thing they must do is register. And she goes out and talks to kids all the time."
Osuna got involved because many of the issues are near and dear to her heart. "I thought it was so cool because their whole target audience is the Latino community and raising awareness about issues that pertain to us."
Superintendent Yovino believes one day Osuna will be the next county superintendent, mayor or state leader. That's why he selected her as his super star for December. "This is someone who is championing the rights of others including voter registration and is an advocate for women's health."
It was really exciting. I'm not gonna lie I didn't know about it at first until Mi Familia Vota nominated me and I'm so honored."
Osuna wants to attend a UC school and major in public policy. She believes one day she will either work for a government agency or run for political office.
