Surveillance video of Kenton K.C. Haggard

UPDATE: 02/05/2018 --

The suspected killer of a transgender person in Fresno back in July of 2015 has been found and arrested, according to Fresno Police.

Chief Jerry Dyer made the announcement today in a news conference.

We're told the suspect, the passenger in a surveillance video, accused of slashing that person's throat is in police custody.

We're also told that the driver seen in that video is the same man that was killed in a motorcycle crash in December of 2017.

STORY - JULY, 2015

The FBI is now helping Fresno Police in the search for the man accused of killing a transgender person earlier this week.

Fresno Police released new video Saturday afternoon, of what appears to be the same vehicle driven by the man accused of killing a transgender person hours earlier.

"There is always the potential he is going to hide that vehicle or leave town with that vehicle. That's the risk we take," says Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

The video was from ten hours after 66-year-old Kenton Haggard was killed.

Haggard was stabbed in the early hours of July 23rd, in the area of Blackstone and Cornell, near Shields.

Haggard's roommates told detectives that Haggard had begun dressing as a woman three to six months ago, and had developed a drug addiction.

Surveillance video shows a Saturn SUV drive up to Haggard.

After minutes of talking, Haggard leans into the car, and is stabbed directly in the neck with a knife.

Haggard dies minutes later.

While the victim was transgender, Police have not classified this as a hate crime.

Dyer says it's still too early in the investigation.

"Regardless of whether the person is a transgender male female, they are a homicide victim and we're gonna give everything we can to solve this case and bring to justice this individual responsible for that murder," he says.

In the hours after the killing, police say the accused killer hired a prostitute -- who has been cooperating with officers.

She described the man as Hispanic, in his mid-to-late 30's, 5'9"-5'10", weighing between 150 and 160 pounds. He has short dark hair and tattoos on both arms.

Fresno Police and the FBI were able to gather DNA and fingerprint evidence.

The Bureau of Justice is also working with police to enhance the video of the silver-colored, Saturn SUV.

The SUV has a moonroof and appears to have damage on the lower-right portion of the vehicle.
