It took a couple of days but Fresno Police finally get the gunman who got away. A teenager is arrested stemming from Friday night's shooting in Central Fresno.

On Friday night police responded to a shots fired call at Fresno and White...a few blocks northeast of Downtown Fresno. When they arrived, a teen with a gun took off on foot. Police say officer Mike McCray chased him.

Chief Jerry Dyer says the teenager fired six rounds at Officer McCray, but McCray never returned fire. Here's why.{}"He said that there was some females and several children that were outside. They were standing behind where the suspect was, and he felt they were in the line of fire."

Friday night police combed the area on the ground and in the air looking for the gunman. Chief Dyer says old fashioned police work led them to the 16-year-old. "He said that he had a firearm in his possession and the reason that he ran from the officer was because he had the firearm, and the reason that he fired at Officer McCray was because he wanted him to stop chasing him."

Chief Dyer says police found the gun ditched behind a wooden fence. He said there was one bullet in the chamber and four more rounds in the gun's clip.
