Los Banos Officer On Leave Following Shooting

A Los Banos Police Officer is on leave following a deadly shooting.

The officer, whose name has not been released, had been called to a home on the 600 block of Vine Street Monday, for reports of an assault against an 80-year-old man.

The victim told police he had been assaulted by his 43-year-old son, who lives with him.

As the officer carried out the investigation inside the home, he says the victim's son attacks him with a pair of scissors.

The officer was stabbed in the arm, and then drew his firearm, shooting the man twice.

The man was hit in the left leg and chest.

He was flown to a Modesto-area hospital, where he died during surgery.

The officer was taken to Los Banos Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

So far, the suspect's name has not been released.
