COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — In the early morning hours of Saturday, a historical building in Columbia went up in flames, some of it was captured on film.
At around 7 a.m. first responders received a call about smoke in the area near the BullStreet Development, when they arrived, they were greeted with visible flames.
Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said that the fire was one of the worst ones he's seen in years. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and the fire took almost 10 hours to put out.
Roger Brasley, of Columbia, says he was shocked when he saw the scene. He captured several videos of the blaze, including one iconic video of the moment the building's dome collapsed.
Brasley is one of many community members saddened by the loss of the Babcock Building.
Multiple agencies are still investigating the cause of the fire. Six people have been named persons-of-interest after surveillance footage shows them near the Babcock Building just hours before the fire started. Officials speculate the damage could be in the millions.
