CAL Fire's containment of the Creek Fire went up a couple percent Saturday, reaching 8% by the evening.

The Fire is steadily climbing toward 200,000 acres.

As of Saturday night, CAL Fire said it reached 196,667 acres, or 307.3 miles.

Most of the containment is around the southern portion of the fire, where dozer crews and hand crews have been able to successfully cut out lines to stop the fire from spreading.

Firefighters are using natural barriers to help get the fire under control, pushing it toward the San Joaquin River.

A thick layer of smoke kept the temperature down for the past few days, though Saturday was a few degrees warmer than the day before.

CAL Fire says the temperature change made fire activity increase near Old Bretz Mill.

Sunday, CAL Fire says winds could drive some smoke out of the area, and push the fire into deep canyons.

Firefighters warn that could impact the communities of Auberry, Shaver Lake, and Old Bretz Mill.

In Madera County, humidity is dropping and winds are picking up, making the fire more active.

It's spreading north and east toward the Minaret Mountains.

CAL Fire says wind gusts around 30-35 miles per hour will push the fire over ridges Sunday through Tuesday, increasing fire activity in the North Fork Brown Creek, Central Camp, and Graveyard Meadow areas.

Spot fires remain an issue in both the Fresno and Madera County regions of the Creek Fire.
