A group of people is finally back home tonight, after the Creek Fire trapped them in the mountains for six days.

That group consisted mostly of a group of friends that were staying in Blayney Meadows.

Hikers from Florence Lake and Edison Lake joined them as they sheltered at Blayney Meadows.

Although they were safe, they were stuck.

After a while, people started running out of medications and other things they needed, and they had to get out as quickly as possible.

A woman from the group coordinated with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office to help make that happen.

Cheryl Hurlbut says at first FCSO was going to send a helicopter to retrieve everyone, but in the end, they decided to drive in instead.

“It’s a big deal to get out of there. You have to close up camp, pack everything up, get out of the canyon four miles down to Florence Lake, get everything across the lake, and then caravan.”

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says this was an escort, not a rescue; but Hurlbut says the group could not have gotten out without those deputies.
