Valley teams tip-off state playoffs
Several Valley high school basketball teams opened the CIF State Championship playoffs Wednesday night.
Sanger got 18 points from Isaiah Cuevas in a 66-60 win over Beyer. The Apaches advance to the quarterfinals Saturday at Pleasant Valley.
Central will have a home game Saturday night after opening with a 73-72 win at St. Francis.
In other boys games, Bullard lost at Heritage, 71-67. Brentwood eliminated Fresno, 53-46. Crossroads knocked out Selma, 84-57. Immanuel fell to University, 86-60. Carnegie beat Kerman, 76-46. Santa Clarita Christian defeated Corcoran, 70-52.
In girls games, Clovis won a 59-57 nail biter over Lathrop. San Joaquin Memorial also reached the quarterfinals by beating Lincoln, 64-38. Mission Oak got a 55-45 win over Shafter. Immanuel topped Polytechnic, 57-47. Porterville beat Santa Clara, 59-50. Fresno won at Ontario, 46-40. Edison lost at Miramonte, 73-49. Sierra Pacific routed Reseda, 67-27, and will face Firebaugh, a 72-54 winner over Garey. Chowchilla bounced Mariposa County, 43-25. Foothill Tech defeated Selma, 70-34. Yosemite lost to West Campus, 60-45.
