Palmer ends NFL career

Valley native Carson Palmer is calling it a career.

Palmer, who was born in Fresno and lived here until his family moved to Orange County when he was a teenager, announced his retirement from the NFL Tuesday.

The first player picked in the 2003 NFL Draft, Palmer came out of USC as a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.

He went on to play 15 NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals.

Palmer, now 38, put up huge numbers while battling a variety of injuries.

He ranks in the top 15 in several NFL categories.

Palmer passed for 46, 247 yards with 294 touchdowns and had a completion rate of 62.5 percent.
