Fuego players win Neymar Jr tournament, trip to Miami
A group of Fresno Fuego players won an all-expenses paid trip to Miami, thanks to emerging as champion of a local qualifier for Neymar Jr's Five tournament. The team - Fellipe Souza, Anthony Torres, Moises Martinez, Diego Casillas, Elijah Martin, Milton Blanco, and Renato Bustamante - called themselves 'Broken Drum,' because they couldn't be beat. Indeed, that team was the last standing after 36 squads arrived at Fresno's Calwa Park Saturday morning.
Neymar Jr's Five tournament is played on a small soccer field, with small goals; it's five-a-side, knockout style, also, meaning when one team scores, the other team loses a player. The winner is determined when one team runs out of players, or whoever has more players standing at the end of 10 minutes.
Fresno was one of 17 U.S. qualifiers across 10 states, and the U.S. finals will be played in Miami on Jun 10. Should the Broken Drum team win then, they would advance to the global finals in Praia Grande, Brazil, the hometown of world famous soccer star Neymar Jr.
