Fresno State wrestling draws big crowd in much anticipated home opener

Fresno State wrestling drew the third-largest crowd in program history, in the 2017 home opener against Illinois.

Central Valley wrestling fans had been waiting for this night for more than 11 years - and it showed. In Fresno State's first home match since 2006, the Bulldogs drew 6,840 fans to the Save Mart Center Friday. It was the third-largest crowd in program history.

Fresno State lost to nationally ranked Illinois 33-10, but the energy of the home crowd made it a triumphant start to the new era of the sport on campus.
