Fresno State will retire Derek Carr's jersey
FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) —
Fresno State head football coach, Jeff Tedford, held a news conference at noon on Monday.
To kick off the conference, Coach Tedford said Fresno State will retire Derek Carr's jersey at this season's home opener on September 2nd. "It's an awesome thing," said Tedford. "I don't think there's any better ambassador."
Coach Tedford talked about coaching Derek's brother, David, when Derek was only 5-years-old. He said he remembered Derek at practices doing drops with his Nerf football.
Derek Carr will be at the home opener and is expected to speak to the players before the game.
Coach Tedford says he and the other coaches are looking forward to getting to work. The players have reported back to camp and first practice will be held Tuesday. "We're going to work every single day to enjoy the process and make sure we work to attain what our goals are," said Tedford.
Coach Tedford asked that fans don't focus on the past but come out and support the team. "Give us a chance," said Tedford.
