Fresno pilot Tim Cone wins Air Race 1 World Cup
THAILAND - Fresnan Tim Cone was the fastest pilot in a race that's billed as the fastest international motorsport on the planet - and now Cone is Air Race 1's World Champion.
Racing in the Air Race 1 World Cup in Thailand Sunday, the 52-year-old Cone won in convincing fashion, in a sports that is sometimes called "NASCAR of the sky." Pilots race 8 laps around an oval circuit, going upwards of 250 mph, only about 50 feet off the ground.
Cone is a corporate pilot and formation flight lead in his day job.
