CIF Section playoffs underway

The Valley Championship games in girls high school basketball are set after the section semifinals Tuesday night.

In Division I, top-ranked Clovis West defeated Central, 57-38, setting up a finals match with Clovis, a 55-52 winner over Hanford.

In Division II, Independence beat Redwood, 65-56 while Yosemite won at Bakersfield, 56-43. Independence and Yosemite meet in the final.

The Division III championship game will have Sanger taking on Madera. The Apaches upset Mission Oak, 58-49 while The Coyotes held off Golden Valley, 49-45.

Division IV will match Sierra Pacific and Strathmore. Sierra Pacific advanced by beating Immanuel, 68-51. Strathmore eliminated Kerman, 71-50.

In Division V, San Joaquin Memorial knocked off Kern Valley, 71-62 and will meet Bakersfield Christian for the championship.

All of the championship games will be played at Selland Arena on Friday and Saturday.

And congratulations to the six new Valley Champions in boys high school soccer.

Tuesday's winners were Clovis, Golden West, Dinuba, Lindsay, Chavez and Mendota.
