Fresno State to hold a forum following professor's tweets about Barbara Bush

Fresno State University will be holding a community forum following a professor's controversial tweets about Former First Lady Barbara Bush.

In a statement, University President Joseph I. Castro says the forum community forum will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Save Mart Center.

“One of the most important parts of my job is to ensure I’m listening carefully to our stakeholders and community members,” Castro said in a statement. “After the recent incident involving one of our employees who made inappropriate comments on social media after the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush, purposeful listening is even more important.”

There will be a forum for Fresno State students on Wednesday, May 2 in the North Gym 118. It will include Dr. Thomas Holyoke, chair of the Fresno State Academic Senate, and Blake Zante, president of ASI, as well as members of Dr. Castro's leadership team.

Randa Jarrar, a professor in the Department of English at Fresno State, made headlines nationwide after she posted a series of of controversial tweets about Former First Lady Barbara Bush, including calling her an "amazing racist".

After a review, Fresno State announced it will not fire Professor Randa Jarrar.
