Child hit by car while crossing street in Fresno dies

UPDATE: 3/20 5:20 P.M.: Superintendent of schools Matt Navo has issued the following statement in regard to the death this morning of a Washington Academic Middle School student:

"This is a tragic loss for our family and the Sanger Unified School District. Everyone in Sanger Unified and the community is sending their sympathy and prayers of support.
"Our teams will be on hand at school sites to help our students and staff deal with the tragic loss of our student. School counselors, and school psychologists will be available to talk to students in the classrooms and with individual children as we deal with the loss of one of our own."
"The Sanger Unified School District community extends their heartfelt sympathy to the Vang family during this difficult time. Please keep our community, staff, and students in your thoughts and prayers."


The Coroner’s Office has release the name of victim from Monday morning’s vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at Armstrong and Butler. She is Mina Vang of Fresno.


A child was taken to the hospital with major injuries after she was hit by a car while crossing the street Monday morning. She later died.

Police say the 12 year old girl was not using the crosswalk when she was crossing Armstrong at Butler. The driver could not see her.

The driver is cooperating with police and will not be charged. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

Armstrong between Butler and Burgan were closed during the investigation.
