Woman charged in fatal crash that killed sister
MERCED, Calif. (FOX26) —
On Wednesday, the Merced County District Attorney's Office filed felony charges against 18-year-old Obdulia Sanchez of Stockton following a deadly accident on Friday.
Sanchez's 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline Sanchez was killed in the crash Friday night near Los Banos.
Another 14-year-old passenger was also injured in the crash.
The crash become big news because Sanchez was streaming live on social media at the time of the crash and continued to stream even after she realized her sister was dead.
Sanchez was charged with four felony charges including manslaughter and DUI resulting in injury.
Sanchez was be arraigned by video at the Merced Superior Court, Los Banos and pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
She faces a maximum sentence of nearly 14 years in state prison if convicted.
"The behavior demonstrated both prior to and after the incident, as documented by the defendant's own recording, is disturbing and shocking," said Chief Deputy District Attorney Harold Nutt. "The Merced County District Attorney's Office will do everything in its power to see that justice is done in this matter."
Further investigation will take place and the District Attorney's office is not ruling out the possibility of additional charges, Nutt added.
