Tulare Co. Sheriff's investigating a shooting in Visalia
The Tulare Co. Sheriff's Office confirmed early Thursday morning that the SWAT/hostage situation in a neighborhood northeast of Visalia ended in a double murder and suicide.
Deputies were originally called to a house on Rd. 138 near Ave. 320 after someone inside the home reported a 48-year-old man, also a member of the family, was making threats, and had fired a gun.
When deputies arrived, they moved quickly to get as many people out of the house to safety as possible. They then learned the armed 48-year-old man was holed up in a room with a 28-year-old man, and 49-year-old woman and a 4-year-old boy. The SWAT team and a hostage negotiator were called to the home.
After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the 48-year-old man, deputies went in to rescue the boy. He was not hurt. Deputies found the bodies of all three adults inside. Investigators said they all died from gunshot wounds, and it appeared the 48-year-old shot the other two before turning the gun on himself.
Deputies were still investigating a motive for the shooting Thursday.
