UPDATE: Fire crews gaining ground on the Garza Fire

UPDATE: The Garza fire is now 72% contained and has burned burned 48,403 acres which is a little more than 75 square miles, according to CalFire.

Crews are continuing to construct and improve containment lines around the fires perimeter, fire officials say.

However, smoke will probably more visible today because there are a few hot spots that are still burning, according to CalFire.

CalFire says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

AVENAL, Calif. (FOX26 NEWS) - The Garza Fire near Avenal has now burned 48,403 acres which is a little more than 75 square miles, according to CalFire.

Fire officials say the fire is currently 64% contained and more than 1,000 firefighters are battling the flames.

One sign that crews may be gaining ground, an evacuation warning has been lifted and there are no longer any structures being threatened, according to fire officials.

CalFire says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
