Newest mural at Rawhide Ballpark done by spray paint artist

A.J. Gomez said the spray paint artist said creating baseball players can be challenging, but he likes to make it his own.

It was Opening Day at Rawhide Ballpark in Visalia Thursday.

Fans not only got to enjoy a game, but some new art that was added near some stands recently.

The colorful work is that of spray paint artist A.J. Gomez.

"I started spray painting when I was 14," Gomez said." Even with murals like these that had a lot of information that needed to be on there, you still have to make it your own, which is what I did with some of these portraits of baseball players and stuff," Gomez said.

The 28-year-old was born in Visalia. Gomez said he's only been doing professional spray-painting for about a year. Gomez said he was fortunate to have made connections with others to connect him with the team.

"I don't even really know what I'm capable of right now, so I'm just doing everything to find out what kind of artist I am," Gomez said.

Gomez is a full-time student and works full-time. He said he tried to squeeze this mural in his busy schedule.

The Rawhide are the Advanced-A, California League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
