Search for Jared Gardner

UPDATE: May 21, 2018:

The Fresno County Coroner's Office has confirmed the body recovered on Friday is that of 18-year-old Jared Gardner.

UPDATE May 14, 2018:

The search continues for a teen who was swept away in the San Joaquin River.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Jared Gardner and a group of his friends were sitting on rocks near the shore outside the San Joaquin River Gorge on Saturday.

Deputies say a Kerckhoff Dam release sent water rushing down the river, sweeping Jared and his group of friends off the rocks they were sitting on. Jared was able to help one friend get to higher ground, but he never made it out of the water.

Crews used search dogs and helicopters to look for him on Sunday, but suspended the search at around 5:00 p.m.

Search teams were back on scene Monday morning to continue searching for Jared.

If you have seen Jared, please call the Fresno County Sheriff's Office: (559) 600-3111.
