Robbers sought in deadly Madera mini-mart holdup
Sheriff's deputies in Madera County need your help tracking down two men involved in a deadly holdup in Madera Monday night. Just before eleven o'clock two mean wearing bandanas over their faces held up the Tackle Box gas station.
They took cash from the register and grabbed two large boxes of cigarettes. On the way out detectives say they fired shots. One bullet hit an unidentified clerk. Deputies say he died at the scene.
Surveillance cameras caught pictures of both men who were toting guns. The face of one crook is hidden by his white bandana but the camera shows a much better picture of the second robber. Detectives are hoping someone recognizes him. Detectives and crime scene investigators spent early Tuesday searching the store for more evidence.
There is now a make shift memorial outside the front entrance of the store for the clerk. Debbie Cota who is a regular customer at Tackle Box says the clerk was loved by everyone. "He was such a loving young man. It didn't matter what time of day you came in. He always had a smile, early morning, late. He always asked how was your day? Is it okay. You doing good today?"
Cota can't believe the victim died for so little. "He was a very special young man."
Detectives would like to talk to a man in a white Acura who pulled up to the front of the store during the robbery. They say he quickly backed out and drove away. They believe he many have seen the robber's getaway car possibly near the gas pumps.
