Repeat school thief arrested in Fresno

This was Timothy Scruggs' second similar arrest for burglary to an elementary school in less than two months.

A man who was arrested less than two months ago for stealing from a school has been arrested for the second time for a similar crime.

It happened Tuesday around 12:40 a.m. at Ericson Elementary School in Southeast Fresno.

According to Fresno police, officers were dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress at a portable classroom.

Officers, with the help of a CHP airplane, saw 25-year-old Timothy Scruggs fleeing the school on a bike carrying a backpack.

Police say Scruggs attempted to run away from officers by riding through the neighborhood but was arrested on Sierra Vista and Cambridge after throwing the backpack. The backpack had six stolen school laptops and tools.

The laptops were returned to school officials.

This was Scruggs' second similar arrest for burglary to an elementary school in less than two months.
