Parents of Boy Killed In Yosemite Create Music Foundation In His Name
"Life is a gift, so live it to the fullest. Grow happy and gaily, for you only have one shot", that's the beginning of a poem written by 14-year-old Dragon Kim.
An Orange County teen often described as wise beyond his age.
A boy, whose life ended along with his friend Justin Lee on August 14, 2015.
Park rangers say a large tree branch broke and fell on a tent where Dragon and Justin were sleeping.
Both were killed.
Dragon, who was named by his parents because he was born in the Year of the Golden Dragon, enjoyed playing sports from water polo to Tae Kwon Do.
He earned two black belts.
Aside from a passion for economics and physics, Dragon played 10 musical instruments.
Dragon's mother, Grace Kim says the family is too distraught to speak on camera.
However, they are now trying to turn this tragedy into something bigger and start The Dragon Kim Foundation.
Its mission to give kids opportunities to explore and purse their passions with academics, athletics and the arts.
The foundation's first project, to introduce kids to music with an after school program.
It will take place in the Orange County city of Santa Ana.
Though her son is gone, Kim hopes by devoting herself to one of her son's passions, she can keep his spirit alive.
