Merced County woman decapitated in Washington, person of interest sought
CAMANO ISLAND, Wash. --- Deputies in Washington state are now looking for a man from the Central Valley, considered a person of interest in the killing of a woman, also from the area.
The decapitated body of 26-year-old Katherine Cunningham was found over the weekend on Camano Island, about 60 miles north of Seattle.
Cunningham is from Merced County.
As our sister station KOMO has reported, her body was in a bunker dug into a hillside.
It had been there for days.
Deputies believe she had been targeted and this was not a random crime.
Wednesday, Island County deputies announced they are looking for Jacob Gonzales as a person of interest in the killing.
Gonzales is originally from Los Banos.
Deputies at agencies across the Central Valley, including Fresno, have been asked to be on the lookout for Gonzales.
He is 5'9" and weighs 150 pounds.
He has black hair and hazel eyes.
The Island County Sheriff's office says he may be driving a green 1990 Mitsubishi Montero, with Washington license plate AYE2639.
Deputies did not expand on the relationship between Gonzales and Cunningham.
They warn Gonzales may be armed and are asking people not to approach him.
Just call 911.
