Man arrested for identity theft, found with income tax forms belonging to 26 people

Detectives with the Porterville Police Department say they have arrested a man on several charges including check fraud, mail theft, and identity theft.

39-year-old Angel Luis Rodriguez was arrested in the 900 block of West San Lucia Avenue on Wednesday, February 7th.

Detectives say when Rodriguez was taken into custody they found a backpack filled with mail, checks, and income tax forms belonging to 26 people.

The backpack also contained checks from a local business as well as the tools used to alter checks while committing check fraud. Detective contact several of the victims who all said Rodriguez did not have permission to be in possession of the documents.

Rodriguez was booked into Tulare County Jail on the above-noted charges where he is being held without bail. Anyone with information on this matter is urged to contact Detective Michael Gray at (559) 782-7412.
