Fresno County Sheriff’s Department identifies victim in Orange Cove homicide
Members of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit have identified the victim of a recent homicide. He is 26-year-old Silverio Tapia of Orange Cove.
Around 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 18th, the Orange Cove Police Department responded to an injured man call on the 800 block of Celaya St. in Orange Cove. Officers arrived and found Tapia with a gunshot wound. Fire personnel arrived at the scene and declared the Tapia was deceased.
The Orange Cove Police Department requested that the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office take over the investigation. Homicide detectives and the Crime Scene Unit responded to Orange Cove.
Detectives learned that Tapia and his two friends were outside the home when three men walked towards the house and started firing shots at Tapia and his friends. The suspects ran from the scene and were never found. Detectives are investigating this case as a possible gang-related shooting. However, Silverio Tapia was a farm worker who had no criminal history.
