Hit & Run suspect arrested, victim's family seeks justice

Fresno police say the man involved in a deadly hit and run accident is behind bars Wednesday.

24-year-old Carlos Gomez is now facing two hit & run felonies and a misdemeanor charge for killing 62-year-old David Garcia of Fresno.

The family of Garcia says the construction worker was a loving, kind man, who always had a smile on his face.

They all say he always made sure his family was taken care of.

But now it's the Garcia family, who is now left trying to make sure their loved one gets a proper burial.

Liza Garcia says, "We are going to miss my dad very much, very much so."

Fresno police say since the fatal hit & run accident Tuesday night, officers had been searching for the gray Silverado pickup that hit Garcia as he crossed Olive Avenue.

Police say the truck then took off, leaving him lying in the road.

Family members say they were told by police Gomez was traveling close to 60 miles per hour when he struck and killed the man.

Garcia's wife, Katherine, hopes the judge throws the book at him.

Katherine Garcia says, "He left him like a dog in the street. I want justice to be served to the fullest and I want everyone out there to understand what we are feeling."

Garcia's daughter Sophia says, "He took my father. I hope the judge prosecutes him to the fullest extent. He didn't care to get off the car and find was this man hurt or did this man die, he just kept going."

The family says what it needs help with are the burial expenses.

If you'd like to help, donations can be at The Reade and Sons Funeral Home in downtown Fresno.

It's located at 1103 E Street, Unit 102.

The number is 559-237-3233.

David Garcia is survived by his wife, four children, six grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
