Crews rescue man trapped in car that fell off steep cliff

A driver was rescued by multiple agencies after his car fell 400-450 feet over the side of a cliff.

It happened Monday around 2:45 p.m. in the bank at the top of Briceburg Grade.

According to the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office, CALFIREpersonnel made their way down a small trail on the opposite side of the creek and contacted the driver. The driver was conscious and alert but still pinned in the car.

Mariposa County Search and Rescue (SAR) brought the jaws of life to CALFIRE units who were able to extract the patient and package him for the ride up the cliff.

SAR, Sheriff personnel, County Fire volunteers & CALFIRE helped hoist the injured man back to the top of the embankment.

The man was flown to an area hospital.

CHP is investigating the crash.
