Convicted Fresno Deputy Chief Foster's relative suspected of pharmacy robberies
FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) —
A man who police say robbed two pharmacies has been arrested.
Irwin Foster was arrested in connection with the robberies.
Foster is related to former Fresno deputy chief Keith Foster who was found guilty of "conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana." Keith was sentenced in May to four years in prison.
On Jan. 15 around 7:30 a.m., a man, identified as Foster, attempted to break into the rear metal security door of the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy located at 219 E. Olive. He was wearing a red jacket, bald, heavyset, and looking into the camera just prior to removing it from the outside of the business. His image was captured on video.
Later that same morning around 11:14 a.m., the suspect went to the Vista Pharmacy, located at 4233 E. Tulare St. He walked behind the counter and was confronted by the pharmacy technician who told him he wasn’t allowed there and that he needed to leave. The suspect then grabbed several bottles of blood pressure medicine from the shelves and forcefully pushed the technician to the ground causing her to strike her head causing major injuries. Another technician knocked the pills out of his hands. The man ran out the door and was seen leaving the area in a dark-colored vehicle.
Around 12:44 p.m. on the same day, the same man walked into the Medicine Shoppe at 2484 E. Gettysburg, made his way behind the counter, and committed the second robbery. This man had gloves on and was carrying a small pair of scissors in his hand as he asked where the “Norco” was. The man located Promethazine bottles and took several from the shelf and again ran out the door.
Through investigation, police say they have identified Foster as the suspect in both burglaries and the attempted burglary. Video surveillance evidence also confirmed his identity.
Foster was arrested Thursday at his house. He was booked for two counts of robbery and one count of attempted burglary.
