Clovis Ranch Rodeo honors cattle ranchers

Rodeo fans got an early start to the festivities at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds Saturday.

Cowboys and cowgirls from across the state competed in activities carried out every day on working cattle ranches in the Ranchers Rodeo.

These include branding, roping, and sorting.

Along with bragging rights, there was also money at stake: $16,000 in prizes.

"These guys work all year on ranches,” says volunteer John Semper. “A lot of them have office jobs and do this and it's a chance for them to come out and release and enjoy the good weather… and Clovis!"

April is one busy month for the Clovis Rodeo Association.

The rodeo queen competition is April 22nd.

The Clovis Rodeo begins April 27th.
